Exams and Diplomas: Acting Academy
The AIT, an AFAM academy recognized by the MUR, offers in Rome a highly qualified three-year pathway leading to the First-Cycle Academic Diploma in Acting. For the awarding of the First-Cycle Academic Diploma in Acting, a degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s, the Accademia Internazionale di Teatro adopts the following Teaching Regulations:
- In the three-year program, assessment is expressed in thirtieths. The exam is considered passed with a minimum grade of 18/30.
- Progression to the next academic year is subject to meeting attendance requirements, passing the required exams, participating in showings and productions, and earning a minimum of 60 CFA (Academic Formative Credits) per year, for a total of 180 CFA over the entire three-year program.
Learning Objectives
The course aims to train well-rounded actors, able to master vocal, physical, interpretive, playwriting, and directing tools. Students develop artistic and managerial skills to work in the performing arts and media sectors.
Specifically, the training pathway pursues the following objectives:
a) Mastery and knowledge of vocal and physical tools.
b) Mastery of the Italian language and its pronunciation (Spoken drama).
c) Mastery of the actor’s interpretive and performative processes (Research and experimentation).
d) Mastery of playwriting techniques.
e) Mastery of directing and screenwriting techniques.
f) Knowledge of musical language and its applications.
g) Mastery of cultural marketing strategies.

b) Film, television, and radio productions (On-camera acting).
c) Live performance in all its forms (Spoken theatre – Tanztheater – Musical).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is the Academic Diploma in Acting equivalent to a bachelor’s degree?
Yes. The First-Cycle Academic Diploma is legally equivalent to a bachelor’s degree (L. 228/12), recognized by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) within the AFAM (Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance) system.
What subjects are studied in the three-year course?
Main disciplines include: acting, improvisation, physical and vocal training, singing, mime, Commedia dell’Arte, film and television acting, theatre and film history, playwriting, dance, and scenic design. There are also courses in English and project management for the performing arts.
How long is the acting degree course?
The program lasts a total of three academic years and requires earning 180 Academic Formative Credits (CFA), with mandatory exams every year.
What can I do after the academic diploma?
The Academic Diploma grants access to second-cycle degrees (two-year master-level programs), master’s programs, and public competitions requiring a bachelor’s degree. It also provides professional training to immediately start a career in theatre, film, TV, and new media.
Do you also study acting for film and TV?
Yes. The course includes specific modules dedicated to film and television acting, along with an in-depth focus on new media and performing on camera.
Do I need a prior qualification to enroll?
Yes, you must be 18 years old and have a secondary school diploma or an equivalent foreign qualification.
Are there internships or professional experiences?
Yes, the program is strongly oriented toward the job market and professional practice. Students stage original productions curated by the Academy, simulating a company environment: rehearsals, directing, premiere and runs. In addition, we organize workshops and labs with prominent national and international professionals.

How much practice is there compared to theory?
The course is highly practice-based, with daily hours dedicated to stage training, physical and vocal work, and artistic experimentation. The theoretical subjects complete the training with a solid cultural foundation. Exams are also predominantly practical.
Is the course suitable for out-of-town students?
Absolutely. The Academy welcomes students from all over Italy and from abroad. Rome offers ample housing options and the academic environment is international and inclusive.

What is the procedure to enroll in the Degree Course?
Admissions are held every year between mid-September and mid-October and are divided into three phases:
1. Introductory interview and aptitude tests, with documents and assessment of aptitudes.
2. Free preparatory course for the admission exam
3. Admission exam: monologue or dialogue, poetry, physical and vocal expressiveness.
Admission is based on an evaluation by the faculty and the examination committee.
