The free Preparatory Course of the Accademia Internazionale di Teatro in Rome — AFAM-MUR theatre school with a Diploma equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree — is structured as follows:
Candidates, divided into different sections, will take part in the free Preparatory Course from Monday 5 to Thursday 15 October 2026. The Preparatory Course is aimed at preparing for the Admission Exams to the 1st Year of the Three-Year Acting Course. Students will have the opportunity to work with teachers from different disciplines: movement, voice, acting and diction, who will support the prospective students in preparing the Performance Exams on 15 October 2026.
Lessons and Exams
The lessons from 5 to 14 October and the exams on 15 October require a commitment of 4 to 6 hours per day. They take place at different times for each section and are in any case included within the following time range:
- from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The specific schedules for each section, communicated to prospective students before the start of the Course, may be subject to changes and extensions due to specific educational needs.
The Lessons and Admission Exams of the International Academy of Theatre take place at one of the following venues:
- Teatro Anfitrione - Via San Saba, No. 24 - Rome
- Teaching Site “Circo Massimo” - Via Valle delle Camene No. 1/b - Rome
- Teaching Site “Latina” - Via Latina No. 232/a - Rome
- Teaching Site "San Lorenzo" - Via dei Piceni 41-43 - Rome
Preparatory Course Regulations
- By 5 October the texts must be memorized (downloadable below).
- More than two absences are not allowed.
- Students may be enrolled in the Preparatory Course up to and including 7 October 2026; in this case, no absences are allowed.
- Students must communicate any absences by phone or by email.
- In case of a delay of more than 10 minutes, entry is permitted in the next hour.
- Please remember to sign the Attendance Register at the start of class each day.
- Wear comfortable clothing, hair tied back, non-slip socks or rhythm shoes.
- Keeping mobile phones on during lessons is strictly forbidden.
Performance Exams
The Performance Exams at the Academy will take place on 15 October 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the presence of the Examining Committee. The Examining Committee, appointed by the Academy Director, establishes the methods for assigning candidates’ eligibility for admission to the 1st year of the First-Level Academic Diploma in Acting.
The decision of the Examining Committee is final.
Candidates must present themselves for the Admission Exams with a valid ID document.
Performance Exams:
- Acting exam: memorized dialogue or monologue in Italian, assigned by the Teacher during the introductory interview. (Download the file)
- Poetic recitation exam: memorized poem in Italian, assigned by the Teacher during the introductory interview. (Download the file)
- Physical expression exam: movement sequence to a musical track.
- Vocal expression exam: a sung piece to a musical track or vocal ability tests.
Candidates must know by heart the pieces and scenes assigned.
At the end of the Admission Exams, the results of the Call for Applications A.Y. 2026/2027 will be posted on 16 October 2026 on the Academy Notice Board at the “Circo Massimo” teaching site of the International Academy of Theatre.
Successful candidates must complete enrollment procedures at the Academy by Monday, 19 October 2026.
Classes will start on Wednesday, 21 October 2026. In December, at the end of the theatre performance phase, students will have the option to discontinue their course of study. The Faculty Board may also assess the opportunity to continue studies for each student based on the evaluations obtained.
Frequently asked questions about the Preparatory Course
Is the acting preparatory course free of charge?
Yes. The preparatory course at the Accademia Internazionale di Teatro in Rome is completely free for all candidates selected after the aptitude interview. Attendance is mandatory in order to sit the admission exams for the AFAM-MUR acting course.
Who can apply for the preparatory course?
All candidates over 18 who hold a secondary school diploma (or equivalent foreign qualification) and have passed the aptitude interview may apply. The course is open to those with no prior theatre experience: it is designed to introduce prospective students to professional actor training.
What is covered during the theatre preparatory course?
The preparatory course covers the core disciplines of the acting course: stage movement, vocal technique, acting, and diction. Each subject is taught by Academy faculty, who will guide prospective students in preparing for the performance exams.
How many hours per day does the preparatory course involve?
